DIY Car Wash Tips (That are Eco-friendly!)

How many of you wash your own cars? Not that many, I presume. Did you know? That not only are car washes damaging to the environment, they are damaging to your car as well! Brushes used in drive-thru car washes may be abrasive and cause scratches on your car.

Pros of DIY car washing

1. Reduces your footprint as it is much more environmentally friendly than going to a drive-in car wash.
2. Protects your car’s paint job.
3. Water pressure from automated car washes can cause damage to your car.
4. Bonding activity with family and friends!

Here are some tips for an eco-friendly and energy efficient DIY home car wash:

1. Use mild pH-balanced, biodegradable, phosphate-free, and water-based
cleaners.
2. Use a wash mitt made of micro-fibre, so it lifts dirt off instead of grinding it into your
paint. It is highly recommended to use one for the wheels, and another for the body
of your car.
3. Use soap sparingly.
4. Use a bucket for soap suds and a bucket for rinsing your mitts.
5. Use a water spray gun attachment to limit water usage.
6. Wash your car on the gravel or grass.
7. Dump your dirty bucket into the toilet or in the sink.
8. A good-quality micro-fibre towel for drying

Or, you can consider a waterless wash if you want to save water, or don’t have access to a hose or a driveway!

Remember, every drop counts!

If time is not on your side, you may consider hiring people to wash them for you. There, you can find people who offer mobile car washing services. This way, you won’t even have to leave your house. How do you wash your car? We would love to hear about it in the comments section below!
