Coronavirus: M’sian Couple Hosts Drive Through Wedding Reception Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

In an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic after a spike in cases, the Malaysian government announced that a movement control will be put in place. This newly implemented “Restricted Movement Control Order” will temporarily suspend all mass gatherings of 50 people or more until further notice. Yet, love knows no boundaries for this Malaysian couple who proceeded with their wedding as planned, but not without precautionary measures, of course.

The newlyweds, Ikin and Mon, came up with a rather innovative method to tie the knot to curb the spread of COVID-19 by hosting a drive-through wedding reception where guests celebrated the joyous occasion with the couple from the safety of their cars. According to the Facebook post, Dinas Bridal, a wedding event planner in Malaysia, shared how the wedding was kept COVID-19 friendly.

The guests practised a designated hand signal where they placed their hand on their chest as a sign of respect instead of shaking hands.

After the greeting, the guests could drop their wedding envelopes/gifts into a donation box.

As a token of appreciation, the groom would distribute the food in packed bags to his guests. The guests would collect their food from cars and use the same hand gesture to thank the couple as a sign of gratitude.

As much as we all love happy endings, we still strongly urge you to abide by this movement control order to prevent being exposed to the virus.
