On 15 July 2020, Nissan unveiled the all-new Nissan Ariya – their first-ever 100% electric crossover SUV. The global premiere occurred via a virtual event hosted at the new Nissan Pavilion in Yokohama, marking the start of the latest chapter in Nissan’s brand.
Looking To The Future While Connected To Heritage
With the company vision “enriching people’s lives” in mind, the Ariya is set to represent the brand’s transformation, refocusing on their key strengths such as SUVs and EVs.
“We created the Nissan Ariya as an answer to the aspirations and practical needs of today’s customers,” explained Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida. He continued, “Combining our strengths in EVs and crossovers, it’s a showcase for Nissan’s new era of excitement and design.”
The Nissan Ariya is the first of all future models to sport Nissan’s new logo, which also made its world debut during the virtual event. The logo symbolises Nissan’s dedication to innovation for the generations to come while staying true to the company’s rich and extensive history.
e-4ORCE: The Latest In EV Technology
The Ariya boasts a 100% electric powertrain, powerful acceleration, quiet operation, and a welcoming, luxurious, lounge-like interior. Creating a welcoming environment for drivers and passengers alike are stress-free autonomous driving features, concierge-like assistance and seamless connectivity.
Nissan’s Ariya seamlessly integrates advanced EV technology and takes them to the next level by combining the potential of zero-emission mobility and superb power delivery, charging capabilities and extended range with e-4ORCE technology.
e-4ORCE is Nissan’s most advanced all-wheel control technology, born from the brand’s history of creating solid all-terrain vehicles and sports cars. The “e” in e-4ORCE stands for the 100% electric motor drive system, while “4ORCE” (pronounced as “force”) represents power and energy, with the “4” referring to the all-wheel control system.
Furthering Nissan’s philosophy of designing vehicles around the driver, the Nissan Ariya is equipped with intelligent technology that puts connectivity first.
Nissan’s intelligent personal assistance technologies include a hybrid voice recognition system, Amazon Alexa integration, and an Intelligent Route Planner that not only reminds the driver when to depart, but constantly analyses the road for the best route options and monitors road conditions.
The Ariya is also the first Nissan vehicle to support firmware updates over the air through their Remote Software Upgrade system. This system automatically updates softwares with periodic real-time updates inside the vehicle without having to take the vehicle to a service center.
Timeless Japanese Futurism
The Ariya’s stunning visuals are a testament to Nissan’s new approach to design: Timeless Japanese Futurism. This new design language combines a distinctive Japanese approach, with a minimalist and modern delivery.
Taking advantage of the Nissan Ariya’s new EV platform allowing for a flat floor and compact climate control components, its designers created the most spacious cabin in its class. Featuring Zero Gravity seats, the lounge-like interior is luxurious and welcoming, providing drivers and passengers alike a welcoming and comfortable environment for drivers and passengers alike.
Chief Operating Officer Ashwani Gupta remarked, “The Ariya enhances driving excitement, ensures high levels of comfort and confidence and heightens the joy of connecting.”
Power And Performance
The Ariya is available in four core models and multiple configurations to suit customers’ needs such as both two-wheel and e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive versions and two battery sizes, 63 kWh and 87 kWh of usable battery. Each configuration is designed with a specific lifestyle in mind, ensuring that there is an Ariya for everyone.
63 kWh Battery
The 63 kWh battery capacity two-wheel-drive model is catered for first-time EV owners and city commuters.
The e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive model with 63 kWh of usable battery capacity balances performance and value while offering innovation with its twin electric motors and utilises e-4ORCE technology which delivers predictable and balanced sports car-like power to each wheel.
87 kWh Battery
The two-wheel-drive model with 87 kWh of usable battery capacity gives extra range to customers seeking to make longer journeys.
The e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive model with 87 kWh of usable battery capacity delivers the performance and range while also boasting ProPILOT 2.0 technology, which allows hands-off single-lane highway driving capability.
The Nissan Ariya is set to roll out in Japanese markets in mid-2021 at around 5 million yen, and planned to go on sale in Europe, North America and China by the end of 2021.
