Back in 1901, an agreement was originally made between businessman and automotive enthusiast Emil Jellinek and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) to create a brand new engine bearing the name ‘Daimler-Mercedes’. ‘Mercedes’ was the name of Jellinek’s daughter, which was eventually trademarked in 1902.

The Daimler-Mercedes engine showed its mechanical prowess during Nice Week (“Semaine de Nice”) in 1901 – one of the most important international motorsport events of the time. Mercedes cars that were entered in the event were unbeatable across all categories, and gained traction worldwide.

After the first World War, competing automotive manufacturers Daimler and Benz & Cie came together to create the Mercedes-Benz brand in 1925 in light of the post-war economic downturn.

Founded in 1909, August Horch started the automotive company named Audiwerke AG in Zwickau. The company went through several mergers throughout the first half of the 20th century, but was eventually rebranded in 1971 with its key message focusing on their expertise: ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ (meaning ‘Advancement Through Technology’).

The Audi Quattro made its debut in 1980 at the Geneva Motor Show, showcasing remarkable traction through its permanent four-wheel drive and manually lockable differentials that makes the Audi Quattro perfect for use on icey or smooth surfaces.
