Singapore To Become A Key Player In Self-driving Car Industry

A recent KPMG International report released earlier this year ranked Singapore second in the world and top in Asia of its readiness to autonomous vehicles.

The Netherlands topped the consulting firm’s index, which ranked 25 countries on four criteria – consumer acceptance, technology and innovation, policy and legislation, and infrastructure. Singapore ranked first in terms of policy and consumer acceptance, and second in infrastructure.

This placement brings it in line with the Singaporean government’s efforts to push for more innovation towards bringing autonomous vehicles onto the road. However, despite the provisional regulations to guide the new industry and Smart Nation drive rolled out earlier this year, the country ranked relatively low in terms of technology and innovation.

The current challenges Singapore faces are similar to problems faced by in other Asian countries, however countries such as Korea and Japan are already looking to Singapore’s model as it paves the way in Asia to radically transform the transport system.
